Easy to use, excellent performance September 3, 2010

I have no complains about this cable. It arrive as scheduled and it's plug and play since out of the bag. It's better than buying a mini toslink adaptor. I had one of those and it was a pain when I tried to pull it from the laptop's digital out (it broke once and that was it).

I picked these up with the Apple Airport Express to get digital sound to my receiver through the optical in port. These cables seem to have a sturdy construction, they look good, and they're way less expensive then the monster cables. Highly recommended.

I use this cable to send audio to my receiver from my MacBook unibody. I have a first generation unibody so audio doesn't get sent through the mini display port. The cable is nice and flexible. My only gripe is with the Toslink interface - not a fault of this cable just of how the connection is set up. The end of the Toslink isn't as easy to plug in as a USB or HDMI cable. The shape of the plastic thing is kind of awkward, so I actually busted one of the ports on my receiver. Luckily I had another "channel" free and am using the "TV" ports instead of the "DVD" ports (which got ruined because of Toslink's poor interface).
Again, not a fault of the cable itself, just a fault of the Toslink specifications.

This item is pretty much only useful for hooking your Mac laptop (particularly the MacBook Pro) to an AV receiver. I'm using it to run my laptop through my home theater so I can watch Netflix instant streaming on the big screen. It's pretty much a single-use item (I don't believe many Windows laptops use this connector) but if you want to hook your Mac to the big screen and get full audio, it's your best bet.

I hooked up my MacMini with this and the sound is night and day from a standard headphone to RCA cable. I highly recommend this to anyone with a Mac they want to hook up to external speakers.
